Audrey "Jean" Cornwell, 91, of Creve Coeur, IL, passed away at Morton Terrace on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.Born April 14, 1925, to Joseph and Pearl Smith in Peoria, IL, she married Theodore "Ted" Cornwell in Peoria, IL, on March 30, 1944. He preceded her in death.Audrey was a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. With her husband, they owned and operated the Green Gables in East Peoria and later Ted & Jeans Bar in Creve Coeur. She then retired from Goodwill in Peoria. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose in Pekin and VFW Post 2078 in East Peoria. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church of East Peoria.She is survived by her son, James (Shelly) Cornwell; her daughter, Sue Newbury of Yuma, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.Audrey was also preceded by her parents; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Perry (Sharon) Cornwell; son-in-law, Glen Newbury; 2 brothers; and 10 sisters.Cremation rites have been accorded by Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation services. Graveside services will be at Fondulac Cemetery on Jan 13, 2017, at 10 a.m.Memorial can be made to the the American Diabetes Association or T.A.P.S.
