Bernice was born to Thomas and Winnifred(Anglum) Smith on January 31, 1920 in Chokio, Stevens County, Minnesota. She was the eighth child of nine.

They were farmers and she went to school in the Chokio area. She went to live with her older sister Catherine Kehr in St. Paul, MN. to help care for her two daughters.

In 1943 she came West to Tacoma WA. and married Guy Kehr. They had a daughter Kathryn Jean in May of 1944.
He was killed during Worl War II and is buried in France.

In 1946 she married William "Bill" Clark and they moved to Portland, Oregon. They had three more children, Mary, Kevin and Brian Clark. She was active at St. Stephens Catholic Church in the Altar Society and at the grade school. She was an Adult leader in both Girl and Brownie Scouts. She belonged to a couple of bridge clubs.

In 1962 the family moved to Seattle, WA., where she lived to her death. She was active in Mary Queen of All Saints Guild at St. Mark's Catholic Church. She found ladies to play bridge with soon after moving to Seattle. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
