ST. GEORGE - Mrs. Marion Smith Howell, 93, of 109 Quaker Road, St. George, died Friday, January 16, 2004, in Aiken. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Baptist Church with the Pastor Dan Griffin, and the Rev. Eddie Fogle officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Crowe, Eddie Patrick, David Banner, Richard Sutcliffe, Bryan Jordan, and Joey Westbury. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home.
Mrs. Howell was born September 21, 1910, in Snelling, Barnwell County, and was a daughter of the late Lewis Marion and Cleo Patterson Hill Smith. A 1927 graduate of St. Matthews High School and a 1931 graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, she was an elementary school teacher in Mauldin, Grover, and had retired from St. George Public Schools. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Dewey Weeks Sunday School Class, the Heavenly Harmonies Choir, Mission Hall of Fame, Rankin-Wells Group of W.M.U. and served as Superintendent of the Junior Sunday School Department. She was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and the Thursday Afternoon Book Club. She was pre-deceased by her husband John Albert Howell, son, John Albert Howell Jr. and daughter, Suzanne Howell.
Surviving are a son, Lewis V. Howell and his wife Judy Howell of Aiken and daughters, Kay Jordan and her husband, Lewis Jordan, of Clemson, and Marion Tolson and her husband, Bob Tolson, of Aiken. Grandchildren, Lisa Jordan, Clemson, Jordie Jordan, Okinawa, Jennifer Lawrence, Matthews, N.C., Suzanne Bice, Hendersonville, N.C., Beth Alan, Lexington, Patti Burns, St. George, Chip Howell and Adam Howell, Aiken. Great-grandchildren Bryan, Caroline, Marcus, and Daniel Jordan, Sarah, Kay, Grace, Jack, and Bonnie Lawrence, Olivia Howell and Brandon Craig, Tyler, Allen, and Lauren Bice, Kelli Alan, and Sarah Burns.
