Masonic Leader in Santa Monica CA. He came in America at age 16 to NYC. There he pursued the Fine Arts as a professional particularly in reference to Sculpture and Concert Music. He at one time played solo clarinet in the band conducted by John Philip Sousa. His knowledge and education in the Fine Arts encouraged him to enter the specialized field of embroidery designing from art needlework to stage costumes. He carried on business in NYC for many years. In November 1923 he came to California and lived in Santa Monica. In 1924, he organized the West Coast Art Company, originators and manufacturers of art needlework and novelties, having a volume wholesale business with major department stores throughout the nation. In consequence of his activities in Freemasonry, he soon realized the need for popular priced Masonic equipment. He founded the "Masonic Regalia by Hamilcar Smith" and engaged in manufacturing Masonic aprons and ceremonial robes for all Masonic Bodies. He was a Past Master of Ocean Park Lodge #369 (now Sunset) of Santa Monica; Past High Pries of Royal Arch Masons, Past Commander of Royal Arch Commandery; presided over all York Rite Bodies in California; and was accorded the title of Knight of the York Cross of Honor (KYCH); and because he served as Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masons of California he was further honored by receiving the rare title of Knight of the York Grand Cross of Honor (KYCCH). He was also a Scottish Rite Mason. His commitment and devotion of Masonry, particularly in the Santa Monica area was second to none.
