ANNE BRITT SMITH
1920-2012
MCKENZIE: Anne Britt Smith, 92, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at her residence after a short illness surrounded by family and friends.
She was born January 21, 1920 in Ashville, NC. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Albert Sidney Britt, one of the original Nashville Belle Meade developers, and Anne Dennedy Britt. On December 31, 1948 she married Raymond H. "Pete" Smith, Jr. and they moved to Dresden and she lived there until she moved in with her daughter several years ago in McKenzie. She was active in the Colonial Dame Society, an avid animal activist, a supporter of the Carroll County Humane Society and a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Union City.
Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Britt (David) Barker, of McKenzie; four grandchildren, Edith Anne Bennett (Brett) Guilfoose, JoAnna (Paul) Darst, Kimberly Britt Moreland (Jeremy) Washburn and Jessica May Barker (Adam) Phelps; three step-grandchildren, Major David Brock Barker, Beth Anne Barker (Adam) Killon, and Becky Barker (Chris) Hutson; ten great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a very special friend and caretaker, Betty Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, Cynthia Smith, one sister, Betty Britt Kerrigan Banks and one brother, Colonel Albert Sidney Britt, Jr.
There will be a private memorial service at Sunset Cemetery in Dresden at a lateer date.
