Ruby Smith Simerly, 91, formerly of 158 Echo Drive, Elizabethton, TN, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

A native of Carter County, she was the eldest of 7 children born to the late Burl W. and Emma Lou Hall Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert R. Simerly in October of 2006; Five Brothers, Ray Smith, Walter A. Smith, Howard Smith, Herman W. Smith, and Roy Smith.

Mrs. Simerly was a Charter Member of East River Park Christian Church and a former member of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and housewife.

Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Patsy and Edward Helfer; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sandy Simerly; a beloved granddaughter Cecile Simerly; and a brother, Eugene Smith, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Ruby Smith Simerly will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, in the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Mr. John Smith, Minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charles Goodwin. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday prior to the funeral service or at the residence of her daughter, Patsy Helfer at any time.

Committal and Entombment service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 14, 2009, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the Cemetery at 9:55 AM. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, former neighbors and members of the East River Park Christian Church.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the building fund of East River Park Christian Church, 1207 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Judy and Victor Deloach, The Staff at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Caris Hospice and Dr. Claire Paris for their devoted love and care of Mrs. Simerly
