Birth: May 28, 1918
Death: Apr. 16, 2009

Effie Bramlett Sloman Bouldin, 90, retired R.N., Glass Dealer, Beloved Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2009 after a 10 year battle with Alzheimers disease. Miss Effie, as she was affectionately referred to by family, friends and caregivers had been a resident of the Memphis Jewish Home for the past 8 years. She was the widow of Harold E. "Gene" Bouldin, long time Memphis and Mid South Glass Dealer who predeceased her on December 14, 1983. Miss Effie was born to James Oliver Sloman and Effie Bramlett Sloman on May 29, 1918 in Greenville South Carolina. She graduated from Mars Hill Baptist College and was a 1940 graduate of the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Before beginning her family and before working along side her husband she served as Supervisor of Labor and Delivery at Baptist. Miss Effie was a member of Germantown Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until her health prevented her. She taught pre-school Sunday School and was a member of the Joy Sunday School class. She sang in the Hallelujah Chorus and was an active member of the Merrymakers. She was an avid student of the Bible. Even as her illness progressed she could still quickly turn to scriptures. Even though she could no longer talk she could still move her mouth to hymns. Miss Effie was a former resident of Bellevue Woods retirement community and enjoyed many friends and activities there and at Bellevue Baptist Church. She was a former long time member of Whitehaven Baptist Church where she participated in the Women's Missionary Union and Keenagers. She was predeceased by her brothers James Oliver Sloman and John Thomas Sloman. She leaves three children, Wanda Jean Meredith, Harold Eugene Bouldin, Jr. and his wife Leslie and Mary Kathleen Volner and her husband Keith all of Memphis. She also leaves 4 grandchildren, Harold Eugene Bouldin, III, Christopher Gant Bouldin, Ashley Elizabeth Volner and James Wellington Volner. Miss Effie also leaves a very loving and caring group of caregivers at the Memphis Jewish Home and Crossroads Hospice. Family and Friends will gather at the home of Harold and Leslie Bouldin, Friday, April 17, 2009 beginning at 9:30 a.m. for visitation. The procession will leave the home at 10:40 a.m. for an 11 a.m. graveside service at Memorial Park. The Family requests that in lieu of flowers all memorials be made to the Memphis Jewish Home where she received the highest quality of compassionate care.
