Velma Slimp, 90, of Jacksboro, Texas went on to be with her Lord, May 22, 2012 in a Fort Worth hospital. Service: Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11 am at Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksboro. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery Visitation: Thursday, 6-7 pm Coker Funeral Home. She was the daughter of Elbert and Alma Reynolds Crudgington born on February 14, 1922. She graduated as salutatorian from high school in Lone Camp, Texas, where she met and married her best friend, Charlie Eli Slimp on July 16, 1941. The first part of their married years were spent in the Panama Canal where Charlie was in the Navy and their first child, Stephen Michael was born. They eventually made their home in Jacksboro where their two daughters, Patricia Elizabeth and Cynthia Ellen were born. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Eastern Star, Home Demonstration Club, Library Club and several local bridge clubs. She also served as Sunday school teacher and Girl Scout leader.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother and stepfather, Van B. Butler, her husband, her stepbrother Howard Butler, stepsister Louise Butler and her son-in-law, Larry L. Carter.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Cathie Slimp of Fort Worth, her daughter Patty Carter of Henrietta, daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and James Dorman of Fort Worth, along with nine grandchildren Stan and Samantha Slimp of San Antonio, Stacie Van Deamon Poynor of Fort Worth, Brian and Melissa Slimp of Galveston, Tonya and Luke Armstrong of Jacksboro, Stephenie Slimp of Fort Worth, Christi Carter of Carrollton, Andrea Carter of Carrollton, Scott Carter of Henrietta and Kimberly Collins of Azle, six great-grandchildren Madeline Slimp of San Antonio, Meredith Slimp of San Antonio, Deryk Poynor of Fort Worth, Mason Armstrong of Jacksboro, Maylon Armstrong of Jacksboro and Madison Collins of Azle and numerous nieces and nephews.
