AUGUSTA, Ga. - Eva S. Benson, 84, entered into rest on Monday, December 14, 2009 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009, with Rev. John Kilpatrick officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Benson, and her daughter, Connie McCullough. A native of Barnwell County, Mrs. Benson lived in Augusta for more than 50 years. She retired from the Richmond County Health Department after 20 years of service. She was a Baptist and attended many churches in south Augusta, including Crestview, Silvercrest and Meadowbrook Baptist churches. She was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. She was an avid gardener who even had greenhouses at home.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lisa Benson, Charlotte, N.C., and Charles Benson, Raleigh, N.C.; son-in-law, Bill McCullough, Augusta; brother, L. M. Simmons, Charleston, S.C.; six granddaughters, Carrie McCullough, Augusta, Janeva (Ron) Neely, Guyton, Ga., Merry (Dean) Golding, Knoxville, Tenn., Kelly (Keith) Taylor, North Augusta, S.C., April (Ricky) Martin, Villa Rica, Ga., Amanda Benson, Charlotte, N.C.;grandson, Alex Benson, North Augusta, S.C.; a neighbor of 47 years, Mrs. Marie Creasy and other longtime neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weathers.
