My Friend

His name is David Wayne Simmons, Down the line he was kin,
But he was more than that, He was also my friend,
I remember us growing up, Not so close back then,
But we became closer friends, As we both became men,
He was such a godly man, He was always in God's house,
Don't think I ever seen him mad, Usually just quiet like a mouse,
He worked as hard as he could, At everything he did,
He would work from sun up, Till time to go to bed,
He was always on the run, Always had something to do,
He helped with the scouts, And the football team too,
He loved a lot of people, Like his mom and his dad,
His wife and kids, They were the best he could have,
He knew the bible, Like the back of his hand,
And when something came up about Jesus, He'd always take a stand,
We often had long talks, About our kids and our wife,
We'd talk about most anything, And we talked a lot about life,
About just how fast, Your life seemed to fly by,
You turn around once or twice, And your life had passed you by,
He often gave me advice, Mostly he'd ask what would Jesus do,
It would usually make me slow down, And always think things through,
No matter what problem you had, He'd try to cheer you up,
He'd tell you the glass was half full, Cause that's how he always seen the cup,
I saw a rainbow today, It reminded me of you,
How you were always bright and cheerful, And let your colors for Jesus shine through,
If anyone was ready for heaven, David Simmons was his name,
He was always ready to go, He was saved and didn't play games,
Were all waiting to die, He told me one day,
From the moment we are born, Were not here on earth to stay,
If anyone is looking for David, I know where he just might be,
In heaven with his dad, No more sickness now he's free,
I guess this is goodbye my friend, But only for a short time,
I'll see you again in heaven, And then we'll both be just fine,

REFLECTION OF MY LIFE
David W. Simmons
If I had the chance to start again and rewind the hands of time
I'd complete the tasks left undone In this current world of mine
I'd listened to my parents more and been receptive to their words
for experience always wins out if those suggestions were really heard
I'd not put as much emphasis on achievements for the spotlight is now gone
but kept improving on the things that make others strong
For I've enjoyed my life, but work is work...
and needed to survive...
It's the things of fun and joy that help us feel alive
I'd not lost touch of friends from all the past days gone by...
For now I realize I've missed so much but can't explain just why
Hugs and kisses for my kids would been more part of life
any many more " I Love You's " would been spoken to my wife
My health not took for granted As I did when I was young
For once it's gone it's over Like a song that has been sung
I'd learn more about those who've loved me along the way
to understand how they can do that no matter what I say
I guess it comes down to something Much more I should improve
To give myself, my heart, my all In everything I do
There is a thing I'm glad won't change Throughout the test of time
Is my God's love for me And to know His will is mine
I'm glad He cared for me To create this life I've lived
And He'd not want me to die So for my life He'd give
His only Son and the Cross The Savior of the World
I know He is my Friend Like a precious, flawless pearl...
"Thank you Lord" I hope to say To you face to face
That's the thing I wouldn't change
To be saved by your Grace!!!
--David W. Simmons

I hope these words would inspire you today to
consider God in you life...If you have Him there's no need
for a do-over...He makes all things perfect.
