Helene Silverness was born September 6, 1909 in New Solum township near Newfolden, the daughter of Edward and Hilda (Metvedt) Silverness. She attended school through high school graduation and received her LPN degree in nursing.
On June 28, 1935 she married Elmer Bjorsness, and they made their home in Newfolden. In 1959, they moved to Crookston and in l960, to Cambridge.
Helene worked at the Cambridge State Hospital until her husband's failing health forced her to quit. Elmer passed away in 1970. For the next five years, she worked at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Grandview Christian Home and Cambridge Health Care Center. She continued to live in her home until becoming a resident of the Bethel Care Center in St. Paul this spring.

Helene is survived by one brother, Arnold Silverness of New Market; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23 at 10 a.m. at Cambridge Lutheran Church with Reverend Erling Tungseth officiating. Vocal music was provided by Eunice Hupfer and Helene's great-nephew, Darren Silverness. Organist was Mary Kay O'Neill. Pallbearers were George, Glen and Darren Silverness and Dale Jacobs. Interment was in the Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
