Obit: Charlotte N. Shuler, 91 Daily News Record, Harrisonburg, Virginia March 20, 2008
Mrs. Charlotte Naomi Atwood Shuler, 91, a resident of Shenandoah, died on March 19, 2008, at Page Memorial Hospital. She had resided at Whispering Pines Assisted Living for the last five years.
She was born on April 29, 1916, near Luray, and was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Nellie Wood Atwood.
Mrs. Shuler lived all of her life in the Page County area. She graduated from Luray High School in 1935, and Eastern Mennonite College and attended James Madison University. She taught Fourth grade at Shenandoah Elementary then moved to Grove Hill Elementary. She retired at the closing of the 1980-81 session of Page County Schools after 25 years of teaching.
Mrs. Shuler was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Grove Hill and had been very active in church, school, political, and community life.
On Nov. 22, 1938, she married Paul R. Shuler, who preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1999.
She is survived by a daughter, JoAnne Glenn Hite and husband, Danny, of Luray; two sons, Cletus A. Shuler and wife, Margaret, and David R. Shuler and wife, Carol, all of Shenandoah; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastors Patricia Covington and Mark Briehl officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Friends may also sign the register at the Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah on Thursday between the hours of noon and 6 p.m.
Mrs. Shuler lived by a motto that one of her children had colored and gave to her to read. “Be patient with me, God’s not through with me yet.”
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul Cemetery Fund, 6433 U.S. Highway 340, Shenandoah, VA 22849.
