Mrs. Myra Shreve
Mrs. Myra H. Shreve, 74, of 18 Clay, North East, Pa., died early Thursday following an extended illness.
She was born January 8, 1897 in Wellsburg, W. Virginia.
Mrs. Shreve was the daughter of the late John Higgins and the former Annie Treharne who survives.
Survivors include the husband, Reverend Ivan M. Shreve, retired pastor of the First Baptist Church of North East, and a son, Raymond Eugene Hicks.
Also surviving is a brother, G. Reed Higgins, of Spokane, Washington. Two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Mabel Higgins) Brown of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. John (Ann Higgins) Bigger of Long Island, New York, also survive.
There are three surviving stepchildren; Mrs. Ernest (Winifred Marie Shreve) Fields of Weslaco, Texas, Mrs. Elizabeth Ruth (Higgins) Burley of Columbus, Ohio, and (Frank) Regis Shreve (Sr.) of Richmond, Va. Several grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Shreve was active in First Baptist Church affairs. She has held state offices e pertaining to missionary work. She also taught for many years in the adult Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of North East.
Friends may call at the Turner Funeral Home, 92 South Lake St., North East, Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend services Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in North East with Rev. Richard Mercer officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
Myra's family lived in Warren, Jefferson County, Ohio prior to relocating to Divernon, Sangamon County, Illinois, in 1901.
By 1919, 22 year old Myra was living in Martins Ferry, and on November 23rd, married recent widower and successful Pittsburgh architect. J. Howard Hicks. He was 17 years older than her.
J. Howard & Myra made their home in Erie, about the same time J. Howard opened his own firm, and they welcomed a son, Raymond Eugene, 5 years later. J. Howard had two older daughters with 1st wife, Jessie; Winifred & Elizabeth. Raymond was their only child together.
J. Howard Hicks was in an automobile accident on December 7, 1943 and died a few months later from a cerebral hemmhorhage. At the time of his death, he had been an architect for 40 years.
Later that same year, Myra married another widower, the newly appointed pastor of Edinboro First Baptist Church, the Rev. Ivan Marquis Shreve. Rev. Shreve had 2 sons with 1st wife, Louisa; Gerald Ivan & Frank Regis.
Rev. Ivan M. Shreve died in 1975 in Richmond, Virginia, near his son Regis. According to Ivan's obituary, Myra died in 1971.
Myra and 1st husband, J. Howard are buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Erie Pa. Myra's 2nd husband, Ivan is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City, Erie Pa.
