Gladys was born the 1st of 9 children on the family farm 1 mile east of Cortland. Her parents were John "Walter" Sherman(1875-1949) and Marie M.(Busch) Sherman(1882-1948). She had 3 sisters; Marie M.(Sherman) Papke-Price-Holland(1909-1996), Lucille H.(Sherman) Hewitt(1913-1975), Gertrude A.(Sherman) Clough(1915-1999) and 5 brothers; Homer O."Butch" Sherman(1904-1979), Homer's twin Harold(1904-1905), John W."Snip" Sherman(1908-1972), MelvinL. Sherman(1920-1983) and Gene S. Sherman(1925-2012). Gladys, like all her siblings attended Good Hope School. She graduated from Cortland High School in 1920 and later went to Peru Teachers College. She was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Cortland, was an accomplished seamstress and quilter for many years.As a child she spent quite a bit of time with her Aunt and Uncle, Sam and Lillian(Sherman) Skinner.This is how she met neighbor Tom Day, whom she married Oct.17,1942 at Rich Hill, Missouri. They had 2 children Roger Thomas Day and Ruth Ann (Day) Anderson
