Ethel O. Shaw Long, 93, lifelong resident of Youngwood, died Friday Feb. 10, 2006, in Hartville, Ohio. Ethel was born on March 22, 1912, the daughter of Albert L. and Nettie Barnhart Shaw. Her husband of 61 years, John W. Long, preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Albert E. and Roy E. Shaw. Ethel is survived by her daughter, Myrna G. Griffiths and husband, Allyn, of Huntsville, Ala.; and son, Dean A. Long and wife, Judith, of North Canton, Ohio. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Margaret Griffiths Kent and husband, James, of Patuxent River, Md.; grandson, Steven Griffiths, of Austin, Texas; great-grandson, Avery Kent; nieces and nephews, Roy Shaw and wife, Rose, of Martinsville, W.Va., Denise Shaw Cortazzo and husband, Carmine, of Home, Pa., Marcia Shaw Bizon and husband, Randall, and Dennis Shaw, of Greensburg. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Youngwood and also faithfully attended the Community Church of Hecla in Southwest, Pa. She was a graduate of Youngwood High School, class of 1930. Ethel enjoyed camping and traveling with John after their retirement. She belonged to many social groups and organizations to include the Harrold Grange, various camping groups, senior centers, Red Hat Society, and Laura's Guild of the Community Church of Hecla. Ethel loved playing cards and bingo and she cherished her many friendships. Ethel leaves behind a loving family and many caring and dear friends. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME in Youngwood. Services will be in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dale Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Tarrs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to a favorite charity.
