Carroll Hyneman Sharp, 74, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church . Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday in the Parish Hall at the church. Visitation will continue at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at McPeters Funeral Home in Corinth with burial following at 3:00 p.m. in Henry Cemetery. Sebrell Funeral Home of Ridgeland is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Sharp was born on December 27, 1936, in Corinth, MS; the son of the late Samuel Ira Sharp, Sr., and Beatrice Carroll Sharp. He graduated from Corinth High School in 1956 where he played defensive end on the Corinth Warriors football team. Mr. Sharp was a member of the 1955 Big 8 Conference Championship Warriors team, defeating Tupelo to claim the championship. He continued his education, attending Mississippi State University. After college, Mr. Sharp served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He accepted a position in Pascagoula with the General Adjustment Bureau where he worked as a insurance adjuster. While working for General Adjustment, Mr. Sharp met his wife, the former Mary Jo Usery. They were soon married and began raising their family. A resident of Jackson since 1974, he managed the Passport Inn and in 1982, accepted a management position with the Conestoga Steak House and later with Metro Ramada. In1987, Mr. Sharp opened his business, Express Pack and Parcel. He remained active in the business until his retirement in 2004.
A communicant of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, he enjoyed sports including golf, hunting and fishing. He especially cherished being a member of the 'Elite Club', a group of friends from the championship football team. They have enjoyed meeting at Pickwick Lake each fall for the past fifteen years.
He will be remembered as a beloved husband, a devoted father, a cherished grandfather and a loving brother, uncle and friend.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel Ira Sharp, Jr. and Loy M. Sharp.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Jo Sharp; son, Christopher Carroll Sharp and son, Jeffery Morgan Sharp all of Jackson. He is also survived by his grandsons, Denton Carroll Sharp, Christopher Cole Sharp, Cade Gavin Sharp; Canon Gary Sharp; sisters, Louise Counce of Corinth; Dorothy Emmons of Germantown, TN; Audrey Fay Lawrence of Corinth; Virginia Ann Moss of Corinth and numerous nieces and nephews.
