Betty Devore Shanks, 74, a resident of Mimbres, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 13, at Silver City Care Center. She was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Miami, Ariz., to Carl and Lucille (Whitsett) Dean. Mrs. Shanks worked at Hurley Cable TV as office manager for many years, and was a member of the Grant County Extension Club and the Garden Club. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Richard W. Shanks of the family home; a son, Richard Wayne Shanks Jr., and his wife, Loretta Jean, of Peoria, Ill.; a daughter, Betty Kathlynn Shanks of Bayard; a brother, Carl F. Dean Jr. of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Richard Wayne Shanks 111 and his wife, Lyndsey Ann, of Peoria, Daniel Lorenc Shanks of Peoria, Jerry Ray Jackson Jr. and his wife, Renee, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Juanita Michelle Jordon and her husband, Kent, of Phoenix; and two great-granddaughters, Raynee Buena and Crystal Michelle Jordan, both of Phoenix. Calling hours will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday at Baca's Funeral Chapels, where the funeral service will be held at 2, with Pastor Bill Trafton officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Casket bearers will be Durl Welcrt, Charles Crutcher, Dean Holloway, Wayne Pruit, Kent Jordan and John 'Underwood.
