Lorraine L. Shakespeare, 76, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at the Regency Care Center in Independence, where she had lived for the past two years.
Mrs. Shakespeare was born Aug. 25, 1926, in rural Bucklin, Mo. She worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 34 years, retiring in 1985. Her last work assignment was in the Building 5 Accounting Department. She was a member of the Walnut Gardens congregation of the Community of Christ. After her retirement, she taught adult education night classes in sewing at Truman High School. She enjoyed working with her hands and spent a great deal of time sewing outfits for her nieces and great-nieces. Her cats were a great comfort to her after suffering disabling conditions resulting from several strokes, which left her unable to speak or use her right hand. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Ethel Hustead, and a sister, Helen Horner.
Her survivors include her husband of 55 years, Clifford Eldon Shakespeare, Independence; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Shakespeare, Lee's Summit; an uncle, Ercell V. Lynn, North Manchester, Ind.; a sister, Norma Schmidt, Independence; two brothers, James Hustead and Kenneth Hustead, both of Brookfield, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Walnut Gardens Community of Christ, 19201 R.D. Mize Road, Independence. A visitation will follow the services in the fellowship hall at the church. Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence.
