Mary Ellen "Mimi" Seim
(June 14, 1930 - November 27, 2015)

Mary Ellen “Mimi” (Jensen) Seim, 85, of Seattle, WA, passed away on November 27, 2015 in the peace and quiet of her own home in Seattle, surrounded in love by her children, Steven, Carolyn, Michele and Diane. Mimi was born in Seattle, WA to Sam and Marie Jensen on June 14th, 1930. She attended St. Anne Grade School, graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1948 and attended Seattle University. Mimi married Jack Howard Seim in 1954 to whom she was wed for 34 years until his untimely death in 1988. She later met George Van Stavern (“Van”) who was her beloved companion for twenty years until his death in 2009. She was primarily a homemaker but also worked as a dental assistant for doctors Harry Sloan and Alan Kaplan, both on Queen Anne Hill (and even moonlighted at the Kingdome for a period – which perhaps ignited her love of hotdogs…). She was active in Our Lady of Fatima Parish going back to 1966 where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Choir and a member of the Lucia Guild. She was an avid crafter and always had many knitting and sewing projects underway. In her later years, Mimi very much enjoyed spending time with the Crafty Ladies group at the Queen Anne Senior Center. In addition to Jack and Van, Mimi is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Marie Jensen, her brothers, Gordon, John and Sam as well as her sister, Violet Jensen Forkey. Mimi is survived by her son, Steven Seim; daughters, Carolyn Seim, Diane Seim and Michele Seim Steckler (Rick); grandchildren, Taylor Seim-Brown, Leah Otto (Kyle), Gordon Sebring, Eleanor Sebring, Otto Steckler, Milo Steckler, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to CHC Services, especially her dedicated care specialists, Meseret, Eunice, Michelle and Patty, as well as Julie Kolbo, RN from Evergreen Hospice and Lisa Oswald, MD who went above and beyond to provide compassionate care for Mimi. Mimi loved her many trips to Hawaii, frequently with Van or her niece and nephew Jean and Larry Shook, as well as her children and grandchildren. Mimi requested that those attending her remembrance wear bright colors, her preference over traditional black. Mimi wrote these words: “And now my days are over I’ve loved each of you as best I can My heart lies in Hawaii With my beloved Van”
