Gertie treasured her family and she valued all of her friends. She was a good homemaker and mother figure for her family. She set an example by living a life of service to others. She touched many lives.
The church was an integral part of Gertie’s life. She was an active member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn. She was always willing to volunteer and realized that giving was more than just a word; it was a way of life.
Gertie never shied away from work. She walked beans, hoed thistles, mowed the lawn, quilted, raised chickens, picked apples, and tended her flowers and garden. She could make anything grow and there were never any weeds in her garden.
