Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens East, Chattanooga, TN.
Mrs. Kelley was born in Shreveport, LA to the late Lt. Colonel C.L. Scott and the late Mada Sparks Scott. She grew up in Carthage, TX, where she became proficient in singing, as well as playing the trumpet and piano. After graduating from Tennessee Temple University as the valedictorian, she married the late Dr. Bob Kelley in 1963 and the two of them ministered together for 43 years. The Lord blessed them with three girls and with fruitful ministries in evangelism, as well as in local churches in Tennessee, West Virginia, and South Carolina.
April’s life was a grand testimony to the greatness and the grace of her wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. Whether it was facing breast cancer, battling multiple sclerosis (for over 60 years!) or watching her husband taken from her by a sudden illness, nothing could ever rob her of her joy. Her smile lit the room, her kindness warmed your heart and her faithfulness helped strengthen your resolve.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel Star Kelley Bancroft and John Bancroft of West Columbia, SC; Laura Dawn Phillips and Chris Phillips of Charleston, SC; Sharon Daye Goforth and David Goforth of Riverview, FL; sisters Cherry Hutcheson, of Hampton, GA; and Madell Price of Matthews, NC.
She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: John Robert Bancroft (Ashleigh), Nathaniel Scott Bancroft (Amy), Abby Kristine Phillips, April Lauren Phillips, Zachariah Thomas Phillips, Alyson Kate Phillips, Holly Daye Goforth, Kelley Daye Goforth, Bailey Daye Goforth, Chloe Daye Goforth, Amy Daye Goforth, and one great-grandchild, Micah Scott Bancroft.
We are going to miss her “hints,” her notes, her sweet spirit...but we look forward to the day when we will be united with Christ, will walk with her in glory, and once again have the privilege of hearing “Pop and Nana” sing one of their classic duets. Our prayer is that if you do not have the joy and peace that comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that today will be the day you turn from your sins and place your complete trust in the finished work of Calvary.
