Hazel L. Bittinger, 89, of Fremont Nebraska, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at her home.

She was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Alda to Otto G. and Bertha (Rickert) Schroeder. She was raised in Alda. She married Wendell Bittinger on Feb. 23, 1946, in Marysville, Kan. After her marriage they lived in Grand Island, York and Hampton where she worked as a waitress. She moved to Fremont in 1951 and worked in the cafe at the former Newbert Service Station and cafe west of Fremont. Her husband preceded her in death Aug. 6, 1992.

She was a member of a canasta club and American Legion Auxiliary Post 20 of Fremont.
Survivors include: four grandchildren, Jeffery (and wife, Tamara) Bittinger, Danny L. Bittinger Jr., Tammy Jo (and husband, Chad) Peterson and Kelly (and husband, Brian) Neuhaus, all of Fremont; a brother, Lavern (and wife, Bonnie) Schroeder of Columbus; a sister, Norma (and husband, Larry) Barber of Lakewood, Colo.; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Danny L. Bittinger Sr.; four brothers and four sisters.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Tom Shaw of Church of the Nazarene officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at the funeral home with family present from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
