DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Marie M. Ruden, 85, of Dyersville, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Doug-las Loecke officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 4 p.m. and a parish scripture service at 5 p.m.

Mrs. Ruden was a personal seamstress for more than 40 years to many local women.

She was born on May 13, 1920, in Holy Cross, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Hentges) Schmal. She married Elmer M. Ruden on July 30, 1941, in Holy Cross.

She was an active Charter member of the Layettes and volunteered many hours for the blood bank during local drives, making hosts for St. Francis Xavier Basilica and playing cards with the residents at Oak Crest Manor. Marie was a former Girl Scout leader and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Surviving are her husband, Elmer; three sons, LeRoy (Carol) and Dave (Patti), both of Dyersville, and Tim (Nita), of Burnsville, Minn.; two daughters, Nancy (Mike) Pins, of Marshalltown, and Beverly (John) Karns, of Cherry Hills Village, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Anne Ruden, of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Arnold) Meyer, of Dyersville; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Schmal, of Dyersville, and Lucille Schmal, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Dale, James and Mary Joyce, in infancy; and a son, Robert, in 2003; four brothers, Clarence, Martin, Raymond and Aloysius Schmal; two sisters, Kathryn Neumann and Helen Berg; and two grandchildren.
