Clemens Schleper and Anna Engelmann were living in Bretberg when their children were born. Their names were found with the baptismal information of their children as found in the Church Book of St Gertrud Church in Lohne, amt Vechta, Oldenburg. (LDS Microfilm Record covering St Gertrud - four in all, nos. 909922, 23, 24, and 25.)

On January 7, 1817, Clemens August Schleper married Anna Maria Engelmann, after the publication of banns on the first and fifth. There is no date for their engagement. He is the son of Ludwig Schleper and Gertrud Meyer, renters by Zerhusen. She is the daughter of Andreas Engelmann and Elisabeth Rieselmann, renters in Bretberg. In the presence of the witnesses: Johann Henrich Kreyenborg, renter in Bretberg and Frans Ludwig Schleper, renter by Zerhusen.

After the company purchased land in Effingham, Douglas, Effingham, Illinois, USA he moved there with his family. Franz Clemens August Schleper's death is recorded on page l, No. 8 of the death register at St Francis Catholic Church in Teutopolis.

Gravesite Details

Originally buried at the Masquelet church cemetery. Remains were taken up and transferred to St. Francis Cemetery when it was laid out in 1860. Name is listed on the Old Settlers Monument at St. Francis Cemetery. (At the time of death St. Francis
