Irene L. Byram, 87, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at her home in Worland.
The daughter of Pete and Catherine (Hein) Schaff, Irene was born June 9, 1925 in Chinook, Mont. She was raised in Worland where she graduated from Washakie County High School in 1943. She attended the University of Wyoming for one year where she received an AA Liberal Arts degree.
In 1943, she was married to Dallas Isbell. To this union were born two daughters and eight sons. The couple later divorced.
Irene worked at the Wyoming Boys' School as a secretary from 1970 to 1975.
In 1974, she married Robert S. Byram. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to North Carolina where they resided for five years. Returning to Wyoming in 1981, Irene went to work for Head Start in Worland. She was also employed at different times with the Credit Bureau, Fair Deal Furniture and the Northern Wyoming Daily News. Irene had also written and worked as a news reporter for several newspapers including the Northern Wyoming Daily News, Billings Gazette, Casper Star and the Rawlins Daily Times.
Irene's hobbies included quilting, sewing and crafting, which she passed on to her daughters. She was a member of the Cottonwood Quilters. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta in Laramie, a charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi in Worland, VFW Auxiliary, the FO Eagles Auxiliary, and the Women's Life Insurance Group Review #11. She loved volunteering at Worland Senior Center where she taught craft classes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and granddaughter, Sara Snider.
Survivors include her sons, Brian T. (Fern) of Bonner, Mont., Randall J. of Huson, Mont., Timothy A. (Candy) of Worland, Curt D. (DeAnne) of Auburn, Ga., Patrick D. of Missoula, Mont., Michael D. (Monica) of Buffalo, Kent P. of Phoenix, Ariz. and J. Scott Isbell of Worland; her daughters, Danielle (Larry) Davis of Reno, Nev. and Lynette (Charles) Humphreys of Worland; longtime friend and companion, Jim Davis; 27 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation and Prayer Vigil Service will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with Rev. Ray Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
