Marguerite Mercer, Galesburg Chapel
After a full and joyful life shared with her beloved family and friends, Marguerite Rae (Schaad) Mercer died peacefully at home at sunrise, Saturday, September 18, 2010. Born in Galesburg, Ill on May 26, 1952, she was the fifth child of Andy and Rachel Mangieri Schaad. Her father preceded her in death on July 9, 2010. Marguerite is survived by her husband, Michael; her children: Teresa (Cory) James, Andy (Kim) Admire, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Admire; step-children: Dan Mercer, Eric Mercer, and Susan Poff; her mother Rachel, three sisters Rosemary Madigan, Johanna Liebetrau and Gina (Russell) Merritt and three brothers Carl (Nancy) Schaad, Anthony (Margaret) Schaad and Richard (Beatrice) Schaad. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren: Gianna, Caleb, Renee, Grant, Kaleigh, and Amanda.

Marguerite grew up in Abingdon, Illinois, and graduated from Western Illinois University. She married Norman Admire, in 1974 and moved to Chillicothe, Illinois, where they owned and operated Mannerings' Mens Wear. She later became a business teacher at IVC High School where she taught until 1989 when she accepted a position at Peoria Heights High School. In 1995 she married Michael Mercer, superintendent of Lyons School District in Lyons, Illinois. They moved to Orland Park, Illinois where Marguerite completed her Master's degree in Educational Administration and became the Technology Director at Frankfort School District. In 1999, Marguerite became the Technology Director at Berwyn North School District. She retired in 2007.

Marguerite was Teacher of the Year for two consecutive years at IVC, as well as Citizen of the Year of Chillicothe. She also received numerous technology awards during her career. Her professional accomplishments were many, but what she cherished most were the many lives she touched as a wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She is regarded by all who knew her as someone who loved life and was determined to love and support the many people who loved and supported her.

Funeral mass will be Thursday, September 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Corpus Christi Church, 273 S. Prairie St., Galesburg, IL. Rev. William Miller will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 22, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
