Mrs. Jay B Saxton
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Saxton, widow of Jay B. Saxton, for many years a Cooperstown grocer, occurred Tuesday evening of this week at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith, in Oneonta. She had for the past year had made her home with her daughter.
Mrs. Saxton was born at Davenport on June 16, 1860, a daughter of Peleg and Polly (Roe) Ellett. She married Mr. Saxton of Westville, on December 28, 1898. Most of their married life was spent in Cooperstown where Mr. Saxton conducted Saxton's Grocery on Beaver Street. His Death Occurred on December 1, 1947. She was a loyal and active member of the Cooperstown Methodist Church.
Besides her daughter, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. S.K. Martin of Milford, and Mrs. W.J. Oxley of Rensselaer; a son, Harold J. Saxton, who now operates Saxton's Grocery here; a brother, Francis E. Ellett of Milford; a niece, Mrs. Michael Powers of Peterboro; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the Tillapaugh Funeral Home here Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Harold C. Buckingham pastor of the First Methodist Church of Oneonta, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Theodore J. Stone, pastor of the Cooperstown Methodist Church. Burial will be at Westville Cemetery.
