Wilbur Sayer Saxton
Wilbur Sayre Saxton of Milford died Thursday evening of last week at 7:30 in the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. He had not been well for a number of years and had failed rapidly since an operation in January. The final cause of death was uremic poisoning.
Born at Milford February 14, 1882, he was the only son of the late Niles and Harriet (Sayre) Saxton. He was married to Miss Viva Baker at Gouverneur September 3, 1912. She survives with two sons, Wilbur Baker Saxton of Oneonta and Joseph Niles Saxton of Cooperstown and Princeton, N.J.
Mr. Saxton was a resident of Milford except for a few years spent at Baldwinsville, where he was assistant engineer of the Barge canal and in Bermuda as chief engineer for the erection of Hotel Bermudiana, and had resided in Cooperstown for the past four years.
He was a graduate of Binghamton High School and of Cornell University in 1907, where he majored in civil engineering. He was also a talented musician, having been organist and choir director at both Baldwinsville and Milford. He was a member of the Milford Methodist church and of the Masonic lodge at Baldwinsville; and a 32nd degree Mason. He had many friends who will express sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Milford Methodist church. The Rev. E.E. Benson, pastor of the Methodist church at East Springfield, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wheaton P. Webb, pastor of the Methodist church at Worcester, and the Rev. William J. Brown, pastor of the Milford church, all former pastors of the deceased.
