Former Resident Passes Away at San Antonio

Older residence of Gonzales will regret to learn of the passing of Mrs. Mollie Jeffries of San Antonio formerly of this city, who died at her residence in San Antonio Thursday.

Mrs. Jeffries is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Geo. E. Chamberlain of San Antonio who will be remembered by old girlhood friends here as Miss Mamie Frank Jeffries.

Mrs. Jeffries lived in Gonzales for years and was one of the warmly esteemed residents of this city. Her husband the late J. W. Jeffries was a former prominent stock man here, passing away years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffries lived for years in the Jeffries home located at the end of East St. Frances Street, now the residence of Mrs. B. B. Hoskins, Sr.

Mrs. Jefferies was related by marriage to the W.W.W. Peck family having been a sister-in-law of the late Mrs. Peck. Both families were prominent old residents of this city.

She was a native of Mississippi coming to Texas with her parents and settling at Seguin where she spent her girlhood. Her married life was spent in Gonzales, Mr. Jeffries passing away here. She also lost a young daughter, Sallie Jeffries, who passed away here years ago.

Mrs. Jeffries moved to San Antonio over thirty years ago to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Chamberlain, who is the only surviving member of the family.

Mrs. Jeffries had been an invalid for the past six months, confined to her bed.

She was a member of the Episcopal church and also of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Her funeral was held this afternoon in San Antonio with Rev. Samuel Capers, pastor of Christ Episcopal church, officiating.

Interment was made in the Confederate cemetery there.
