SALADO — Graveside services for Virginia Saunders Kinnison Matthews, 94, of Salado will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Mrs. Matthews died Friday, May 7, in a local nursing home.
She was born May 10, 1915, in San Marcos to William Edgar Saunders and Josefa Baines Saunders. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1933. She attended Westmoreland College where she studied art. In 1935, she married Paul Kinnison. He preceded her in death. She and her husband settled in Salado and opened Paul and Virginia's Antiques and Art. She was a founding member of the Monday Club of Salado United Methodist Church, Salado Ladies Auxiliary, the Historical Society and the Salado Art Fair. She later married the Rev. George McAfee Matthews, and he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Kinnison Jr. of San Antonio and William Edgar Kinnison of Salado; a daughter, Karen Virginia Kinnison of Salado; six grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salado United Methodist Church Monday Club or any organization of your choice.
Broecker Funeral Home in Salado is in charge of arrangements.
