This was a picture of Inez when she was a child. I found it on Ancestry.com. She lived to be 86 years old. I was privileged to have met Inez at her brother, Ernest Guy Saulsbury's funeral in Arroyo Grande in 1970. I don't have a lot of information on her.

The first document that Inez appears in is the 1910 census. She was a nine year old school girl, living with her parents, David and Amelia Saulsbury, on land that he rented in the Lucerne district, (a farming area west of Hanford, Kings Co., California.) His occupation was a General Farmer. Her 16 year old brother, Ernest, (who was distend to marry my 1st cousin, Mable Harbert,) was listed as a farmer working for wages. It is not certain if he was working for his father or someone else. To keep their farm prosperous, Inez's other older siblings were undoubtedly sharing in the household duties and farm chores as needed. Inez and 5 year old Verna were probably expected to have a chore or two.

In 1913 Inez's oldest sister, Edna, married Lorenzo Lierly, They were also living in Kern Co., and he was employed as a Machinist, for an Oil Co.

Just prior to the enumeration of the 1920 census Ernest married the daughter of a young neighbor lady, Mable Harbert. She was the daughter of Thomas Harbert and Annie Belle DeCamp Harbert. The 1920 census revealed that Ernest was working as a tool dresser for an Oil Co, in Kern Co., and his bother Leo was living with them.

Before the 1920 census Winona had rented a house in Hanford, Ca, and working as a Bookkeeper at a Bank there.

The 1920 census for Inez, revealed that the David Saulsbury's farm mailing address was Hardwick, Kings, California. David was a Truck Farmer. (He was growing garden vegetables rather that an Orchard Farmer that raised fruits} He was an employer and Raymond was one of his employee's.

The 1920 census for the young man that Inez would soon marry, Paul Harry Bailey, reports that he was living on a nearby farm in rural Laton, Kings Co., Ca. It is not certain, but it appears that he too went to Kern Co. to work, because they were married in Kern Co. in 1922.

At Christmas 1925 Inez and the Saulsbury family suffered a great loss. Their dear father, David Sauslbury passed away in Arroyo Grande, San Louis Obispo Co., California. The family gathered at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery to bid their beloved father a fond farewell.

The 1930 census discloses that Inez and Paul have moved to Santa Maria. They owned their home, valued at $5000.00 in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, California on 317 N. Lincoln. Paul was a car salesman for an Automobile Co. Inez's 25 year old sister, Verna was living with them. She was employed as a Bookkeeper at a Creamery.

Two known daughters were born to Inez and Paul, Radine Adele was born on May 7, 1931, and Pauline born on Aug. 12, 1932.

Jan. 6, 1936 was another sad day for the Saulsbury family, Their dear mother, Permelia "Amelia" Jane Beckett Saulsbury's spirit returned to God. She was laid to rest next to her beloved husband, David where they together "Rest in Peace."

The 1940 census looked good for Ines and Paul. They owned their home, valued at $5,000.00, on 210 East Tunnell in Santa Maria, CA. He was the manager of his own Service Station. Beside what Paul earned at the Service Station, he reported, he had some other income. Their 2 little girls were attending 1st and 2nd grades at school.

The California, Death Index, reveals that Inez received sad news of the death of her dear husband, Paul H Bailey
