Nellie G. Brindle, 90, of 418 Clifton Road, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in Shippensburg Health Care Center.

Born April 18, 1904, in Canistota, S.D., she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Elizabeth Arnold Sanford.

Mrs. Brindle was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shippensburg since 1937.

She attended Mitchell College in South Dakota and taught school in Canistota.

Mrs. Brindle and her husband, Earl S. Brindle, operated the post office and general store in Belvidere, Neb. Mr. Brindle died Dec. 20, 1975.

She moved to Shippensburg in 1937, where she worked for the Shurtcraft Co., Penn Pants Factory, Crownover's Store and Cressler's Premium Center, all formerly of Shippensburg.

A 50 year member of First Court Chapter 470 Order of Eastern Star, Shippensburg. She also was past department president of Pennsylvania World War I Auxiliary, She was past president of Fort Morris World War I Auxiliary and Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223 auxiliary, both of Shippensburg, and was a life member of Durf-Kuhn VFW, Shippensburg, and a member of the Shippensburg Golden Age club.

Surviving are a daughter, Stella Mears of Shippensburg; two sons, Dale L. of Chambersburg and Edgar F. of Shippensburg; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Fern E. Schweiser, a grandson, Richard B. Mears, a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Mears, a brother and two sisters.

Burial will be Monday, in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
