Barbara Parker Sanders, Hurricane, Utah
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend, Barbara Clare Parker Sanders, died of cancer at her home at the age of 78. She was born August 10, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harold Parker and Genevieve Tidwell, the second of seven children. She attended Salt Lake City schools and graduated from West High School in 1947. Her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Mack Wyatt Sanders on June 8, 1948, was solemnized in Salt Lake temple on May 16, 1949. They movede to Hurricane in 1949.
Her life was center on the Church and her family. Barbara fulfilled many church callings, including ward and stake girls' camp director, ward Relief Society president, Family History Center worker, stake missionary, and ordinance worker at both the Las Vegas and the St. George Temple.
On two missions with her eternal companion, Mack, Barbara served as secretary to the mission presidents in the New Jersey Cherry Hill and Texas Houston Missions.
An accomplished seamstress she made many of her children's clothes and crotched afghans and Christmas tree skirts for each of her children and grandchildren when they married. Barbara loved spending time with her family on their property on Cedar Mountain near Duck Creek Village. She liked to fish, golf, ride horses, do genealogy, play pinochle with her friends, but one of her favorite things to do was to travel with Mack in their RV.
Barbara taught hundreds of people to swim while she was a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society in Las Vegas, Nevada, and St. George, Utah. Barbara was a member of the Lady Lions and with Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mack; two daughters, Terrie (Karl) Spendlove and Lori (Rick) Perry, Las Vegas; two sons, Jeff (Annie) Sanders, Salt Lake City, and M. Scott (Julie) Sanders, Hurricane; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brothers Daniel Parker, Atascadero, CA, Walter (Janet) Parker, Hurricane, and Tim (Sherry) Parker, Tacoma, WA; and brother-in-law, Bob Askerlund, Mt. Green, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold Parker, Jr., James Parker, and sister Patricia (Bob) Askerlund.
The family would like to thank Lisa, Laura and all the staff at Southern Utah Health Care and Hospice for their most thoughtful service.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, 11 a.m. in the Hurricane 8th Ward building, 120 E. 1050 N. Visitations will be on Friday, Dec. 14, from 6-8 p.m. at Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 N. Main St., Hurricane, Ut. and again on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Chapel prior to the funeral services.
