Marjorie Mae Brusven, 83, of Barnesville, and formerly of rural Rothsay, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Moorhead.
She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Union, Iowa, the fourth child of Martin and Jennie (Johnston) Sandberg. She grew up in Detroit Lakes, graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1942, and attended Moorhead State University. She taught at Wilkin County District 3 and Cass Lake.
She married Earl Johnson of Cass Lake and they later divorced. She married Arthur Brusven on July 16, 1949, at Christ Lutheran Church, Mitchell Township, Wilkin County. She became a homemaker at the Brusven farm homestead near Rothsay.
She was a lifetime member of Hamar Lutheran Church of Rothsay. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, active in Ladies Aid and Circle while she was able, and served as president of the Ladies Aid.
Marjorie enjoyed nature in all forms, especially thunderstorms. She collected and studied rocks, and also collected hen on a nest figurines, bells and angels. She loved gardening, both vegetables and flowers, and loved to identify and listen to birds. She especially enjoyed having family around and loved to cook for them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Brusven; her parents; two brothers, Elworth Sandberg and Martin Sandberg, Jr.; her son, John Brusven; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Hamar Lutheran Church, Rothsay
