"Mrs. Marion P. Sanchez, age 87, of Fernandina Beach, Fla. passed away on Saturday morning, Jan. 9, 2016 at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach.

Born in Morehead City, N.C., she was the only daughter and last living of three children born to the late Willis Jackson Phillips and Leah Ward Freshwater. Being the longest living of her siblings, she earned the family quote “She Won”. She was educated in Morehead City Schools and grew up working at her mother’s lunch counter and grocery store. After completing school, she joined her brother, George Phillips who owned and ran several Pak-A-Sak grocery stores in Morehead City. For more than 40 years she served as the Bookkeeper for all nine locations, in and around Morehead City.

In June of 2014, Mrs. Sanchez moved to Fernandina Beach to be with her son.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two brothers, Gerald and George Phillips.

Mrs. Sanchez leaves behind her two sons Art M. Sanchez and his wife, Barbara, Fernandina Beach and Phillip Ward McLean, Morehead City; her husband Arthur M. Sanchez, Willcox, Ariz.; two grandchildren Phil McLean and Michelle McLean Park, along with many nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.

Mrs. Sanchez will be laid to rest in Bayview Cemetery."
