OBITUARIES

Lois Bergman, 58, Stratford

Lois I. Bergman, 58, Stratford, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church with Rev. John Grebner and Rev. Harley Sampson officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Stratford. The family will greet friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of Carson Funeral Home in Dayton.

Lois Ileen Sampson, daughter of Harold and Esther Brandt Sampson, was born April 1, 1941 at Eldora. She attended Stratford High School and graduated in 1959. She was united in marriage on June 28, 1959 in Stratford to Ron Bergman. The couple farmed north of Stratford. Her husband preceded her in death on May 11, 1985.

Prior to establishing her own business, she worked as a waitress for Dermand's Cafe in Webster City. The Bergmans later opened the Pioneer Restaurant and Lounge in 1973 in Boxholm. Five years later, the couple opened a second Pioneer Restaurant and Lounge in Stratford. She operated the business for 27 years until the time of her death. Lois was a member of the National Restaurant Association, American Bowling Congress, Stratford Chamber of Commerce and the Dayton Golf and Country Club.

Survivors are her mother, Esther Sampson of Hubbard, a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Jeffrey Wilhelm, Woodburn, two sons and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Deborah Bergman of Stratford, and Daniel Bergman of Stratford, six grandchildren, one great-grandson, three brothers, Harley Sampson, Lee Summit, MO., David Sampson of Kansas City, and Richard Sampson of Hubbard, and her companion Loren Halva of Stratford.

She was preceded in death by her father and her husband.
