Margaret I. Campbell, 83, of Loyalsock Township, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Valley View Nursing Center.
She was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Williamsport, a daughter of Walter A. and Florence I. Ritter Ryder.
She was a 1951 graduate of Williamsport High School and was one of the first women hired at the state police barracks, in Montoursville, where she worked for ten years. She then was employed in the Williamsport Area School District, where she worked as the secretary for the vice principal of the junior class retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Williamsport, the Williamsport Jaycees Wives Club and was named outstanding Chanine of the year in 1963. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Sorority, where she served in both the president and secretary offices and was named Woman of the year two years in a row.
She was a member of the American Business Woman's Association and was a member of and served as president of the Loyalsock Lioness Club, where she was awarded Lioness of the year and awarded sponsorship for her outstanding contribution to the club. She loved her pets.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John Phillip Campbell and sister, Jeanne E. Brungard.
She is survived by her niece, Yvonne R. (Gary) Reighard; nephew, Craig E. (Elaine) Brungard; great-nephews, Ryan Reighard and Cory Brungard; great-niece, Ranee Schafer; three great-great-nieces, Bailey, Reagan and Bryce; and great-great-nephew, Brendan.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Gwen N. Bernstine officiating. Interment will follow in the Muncy Cemetery. Friends will be received Friday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
