Rosalie Frances Cardinale

SALINAS - Rosalie F. Cardinale, born August 31, 1932 in Monterey, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, July 15, 2011. A lifelong resident of the Monterey Peninsula, she attended San Carlos School and graduated from Monterey High School, Class of 1950.

Before becoming a mother, Rosalie had a career as a bookkeeper with a Monterey CPA business. She also worked as a medical receptionist and in the agricultural industry in Salinas. Rosalie was very active in her children's education, volunteering countless hours at San Carlos School, and was a member of the Monterey branch of the Italian Catholic Federation. In her later years, she enjoyed her rose garden, knitting, watching classic movies and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, John J. Cardinale, and her parents, Horace (Brock) and Jennie Russo.

She is survived by her children, John Jr. of Salinas, Mary Jane (Douglas Dewell) Cardinale of Tampa, Florida and Gayle (Michael) Zazzera of Morgan Hill; and three grandchildren: Anthony and Alex Zazzera and Arielle Dewell.

Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary today, Tuesday, July 19, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey tomorrow, Wednesday, July 20 at 9:30am followed by entombment at San Carlos Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Leslie Foote of Salinas and the nursing teams at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and Windsor Gardens Rehabilitation Center in Salinas for their loving care and compassion for Rosalie during her illness.
