We learn on going to press that Mr. John Rusmisell died on Wednesday at his home at Armstrong, Bath County.

Staunton Vindicator & Spectator September 14, 1900
Mr. John I. Rusmiselle died on the 21st., at his home near Armstrong, Bath county, aged 60 years. Deceased was born and raised in this county (Augusta), but had resided in Highland for about t 40 years before going to Bath. He was well known and highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. He was a brave soldier, and served through the war as a member of the 25th Virginia Regiment. Toward the close of the war he was captured and for 14 months was a prisoner at Elmira. N. Y. Mr. Rusmiselle was an uncle of Mr. C. H. C. Staubus, of Jennings' Gap, and had many relatives In this county and in the west.

Residence Highland County VA; a 26 year-old laborer; 5' 6", florid complexion, blue eyes, auburn hair.
Enlisted for 12 months' service on June 11, 1861 at Hevener's Store, Va., he was mustered into Captain George M. Kiracofe's Company, 25th Virginia Infantry as 4th Corporal. [This company subsequently became (2nd) Company F, 25th Virginia Infantry.]
Regiment Surrendered July 13, 1861. Paroled July 17, 1861 at Rich Mountain, Beverly, W. Va.
Promoted to 4th Corporal December 13, 1861.
Listed as 2nd Sergeant on Roll dated April 30, 1862 and subsequent Rolls.
Present or accounted for on all Rolls until POW May 5, 18645 in battle of Wilderness, Va.; confined May 9, 1864 Belle Plain, Va.; confined May 17, 1864 Point Lookout, Md.; confined August 14, 1864 Elmira, NY.; Oath of Allegiance there June 27, 1865 and released.

Postwar he was a farmer living in Bath County, Va.

The unit was organized during the early summer of 1861 and included the four companies of the 9th Battalion Virginia Infantry. Its members were raised in Upshur, Augusta, Highland, Bath, Pendleton, and Rockbridge counties. There were no members of the 25th at Appomattox on April 9, 1865.
