Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until March 15, 1946

Son of Fred J. & Ruth Runde who resided in Yonkers, New York.

Kenneth served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24J #44-40947, 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Westchester County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 15, 1941, prior to the war, in Jamaica, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bill Collector and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #44-40947 took off from Pitu Airfield (APO 719) on Morotai, North Maluku Province, Indonesia on an armed search for enemy shipping off Borneo. After take off, nothing was ever heard from the bomber again. It is unknown if this B-24 was lost due to bad weather, mechanical failure or enemy action.

Kenneth was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
