Kristine Ann Headings Ruf, who together with her husband has pastored the Lincoln City, Oregon, Foursquare Church since June of 2000, passed away at her home surrounded by family.
Those who knew her recognized her tremendous faith and courage in facing the illness that stole her ability to walk, sapped her strength and eventually took her life. She was strong in her faith and encouraged many who stopped by to encourage her. Kristine had the unique ability to make whoever she was with feel loved and blessed.
Kristine was born in Turlock, California to Jim and Kathy Headings.
After her parents' divorce, the only mother she ever knew came into her life when Jim married Karen Hinman-Cloud. Together with Karen's son, Jeremy Cloud, the family lived in Modesto, California where Kristine graduated from Beyer High school in 1985.
She worked several retail service jobs, took some classes at Modesto Junior College and was a member of the First Foursquare Church in Modesto.
In 1989 a team of students from LIFE Bible College in Los Angeles came to her church for an outreach, and she met the man who would become her husband, college student Ron Ruf.They corresponded; by letters and phone calls for two years and were married in Kristine's home church on August 3, 1991. Family friend Michael Sauro performed the wedding, and after Ron graduated the following spring, the growing family moved with newborn daughter Jacque to assist Pastor Mike in his church in Stockton, California.
After 6 months in California, the family moved to Ron's hometown of Great Falls, Montana, where their second daughter, April was born. Kristine devoted herself to raising the children at home while they were young, instilling in them the values she held dear.
In 1995, Ron was called to serve as youth pastor at the Florence, Oregon Foursquare Church and Kristne began taking on day care children. It was around this time that the first symptoms of Syringomyelia began to appear, with numbness in her fingers and an unsteady gait.
When the couple moved to Lincoln City in November, 1999. They were excited about the challenges to their first pastorate, and Kristine devoted her self to volunteering in the girl's schools. She became a recognizable figure around the town as she was always on the go and very friendly towards everyone she met.
Ron became know as Kristine's husband due to her popularity and extrovert tendencies. Kristine was very active in the community and church. She touched many lives and always had an encouraging word for everyone.
Her sense of humor stayed with her right through the end and she had many laughs even in the pain of her final days. She was inspiration to many, and her desire would be that anyone who is discouraged would remember her and not give up. She will be missed.
A celebration of new life was held at the Lincoln City Foursquare Church on Thursday, March 16.
