MONNABELL J. HAMBLETON, 87, formerly of Big Lake, died on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, 9:48 a.m., at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne where she was admitted on Sunday. Born Feb. 25, 1925, in Allen County, she was a daughter of the late Glenn P. and Gladys (Bowsman) Ruby. Her formative years were spent in Allen County. She graduated from Lafayette Center High School. On Oct. 30, 1945, she married Max E. Hambleton; they made their home in Roanoke then Waynedale. In 1952, they moved to Big Lake, Noble County. In December of 1977, they moved to Fort Wayne. Mr. Hambleton died on March 28, 1987. A full-time homemaker, she was employed by General Electric, Fort Wayne during World War II. Surviving relatives include three daughters, Sandra (David) Shafter and Brendra (Don) McCurdy, both of Fort Wayne and Cynthia Hickman of Topeka; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Sue Hambleton of Texas; a sister, Gloria (Terry) Smith of Columbia City; and a brother-in-law, Fredrick (Winifred) Hambleton of Fremont. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry D. Hambleton; and three brothers, Merle Ruby, Gene R. Ruby and Glenn P. Ruby Jr. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery.
