Betty Lou Ellis, 88, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Knightstown, died Aug. 18, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born Apr. 11,1923, a daughter of the late Donald and Beatrice (Hunt) Ruby.

Mrs. Ellis attended Carthage High School, where she was a cheerleader. She was a lifelong homemaker, who was known as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Ellis was a member of the South Side Christian Church and an inactive member of Center Christian Church. She was also a member of the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 Auxiliary. Mrs. Ellis was an avid artist who enjoyed painting.

Survivors include a son, Brian C. (Kathy) Ellis of Spiceland; four grandchildren, Dawnuell H. Ellis of Carthage, Cary B. (Jessica) Ellis of Knightstown, Devin C. Ellis of Indianapolis and Molly K. Ellis of Indianapolis; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max G. Ellis; a brother, Clyde E. Ruby; and a son, Cary L. Ellis.

Graveside funeral services will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Cary Ellis will serve as speaker.
