Yvonne L. ( Roy ) Benoit, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 in her Chicopee home. Born in Holyoke on April 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred & Aurore (Giroux) Roy . She was a graduate of the former Holy Rosary High School in Holyoke. Yvonne worked at Sickles in Chicopee, and later as a manager of the Westover Motel in Chicopee, and at Avery Dennison until she retired. She was a member of St. Anne's Church in Fairview. Yvonne will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family, she loved to cook, read Danielle Steele novels and she loved all of her little assorted pets that she had over the years. The wife of the late Henry Benoit who died in 1983, she is survived by four children, Anne Marie Podkowka and her husband Emil of Chicopee, David W. Benoit and his fiancee Dorothy Gwozdzik of Chicopee, Susan M. Donze and her husband Robert of Chicopee, and Theresa Benoit and her longtime companion Armand Joly, III of Chicopee, one granddaughter, Jennifer L. Benoit of Chicopee and her companion Mike Izatt, four step-grandchildren, Kim Condino, Mark, Melissa and Dylan Donze, one sister, Rita Sarad of Chicopee, five brothers, Roger Roy of Rhode Island, Norman Roy of Holyoke, and Rene Roy , Ernest Roy , and Donald Roy all of Chicopee. Yvonne is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jeannette Benoit of Chicopee, many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Pringles. The Funeral for Yvonne will be on Wednesday at 9am from the Ryder Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anne's Church, Fairview at 10am. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling Hours will be today ( Tuesday ) from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Baystate V.N.A. & Hospice, c/o Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA, 01104 or to the Chicopee V.N.A. 2024 Westover Rd., Chicopee, MA, 01022. Yvonne's family would like to thank her friends who were patients at the dialysis center in Chicopee for the support and encouragement that they extended to Yvonne during her treatments.
