A former Ossian resident, Helen I. Bates, 77, died at the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Born in Wells County Feb. 26, 1928 to LaRue and Jennie Weikel Roudebush, she married Homer E. Bates April 22, 1950 in Zanesville. He survives.
A member of the Ossian United Methodist Church, she was a graduate of the Lutheran School of Nursing and had worked as a private duty registered nurse.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas W. of Ossian, Timothy N. of Fort Wayne and Bruce A. of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. William (Janis S.) Mettler of Bluffton and Mrs. Stan (Jill) Horton of Peru; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Clara) Harter of Bluffton and Edna Kern of Williamsburg, N.M.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Stuckul and Jane Reusser.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday will be at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Revs. Tim Dilley and Lloyd Hall officiating.
Burial will follow at Markle Cemetery.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
