Orpah Strode Rothrock was the fifth of eight known children of Robert Rothrock (1807-1882) and his second wife, Catherine McKee Rothrock (1813-1855), who married 28 Nov 1837 at Grandview, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. Robert and his first wife had moved to white County, Indiana in about 1832, and after his first wife, Eliza Means Rothrock (1808-1833) died in White County, Robert returned to Pennsylvania where he married Catherine. Robert and Eliza had no known children together. After Catharine died, Robert remarried to Elizabeth Mowrer (c1826-1889) on 17 Apr 1856 at White County, Indiana and had an additional three known children.
Orpah married James L. Goodwin (1836-1902) on 05 Mar 1868 at White County, Indiana. Soon after the family moved to Pennsylvania where they were living at Grandview, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania in 1870. Orpah and James were the parents of five known children, namely:
1. Mary A. Goodwin (1869-1909)
2. Ann J. Goodwin (1872-1903)
3. Gracie Goodwin (1876-1876)
4. Granville Goodwin (1877-1877)
5. Robert William Goodwin (1883-1958)
The daughters Mary and Ann never married.
