Gloria R. Jackson, 84, Altoona, died Tuesday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Walter F. and Violet (McMullen) Ross. She married John K. Jackson Jr. on Oct. 27, 1951, in Winchester, Va., and he preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 2008.

Surviving are three children: Rebecca Susan "Becky" Rice, Janie Kay Wilson (Steven) and John Walter Jackson (Jamee); seven grandchildren: Jodie Faye Fennessey (Richard), Todd Raymond Rice, Jane'e Lynne Wilson, Lindsey Jo Wilson, Kaylin Joanna Wilson, John James Jackson and Jayden Drake Jackson; two great-grandchildren: Roderick Augustine and Jackson Taylor Fennessey; a sister, Shirley Dunkle; two brothers: Russell M. Ross and Gene G. Ross; three special sisters-in-law: Susan Jackson, Patricia Jackson and Jackie Ross; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard R. Ross; a sister, Beatrice Finney; and a son-in-law, Roderick Rice.

Gloria was an Altoona High School graduate. She retired from Bell of Pennsylvania in December 1983 after many years of service, and during her career, she had been active as a member and past president of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was active as a member of the Sunshine Class and the Missionary Society.

Gloria enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, of whom she was so proud.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Second Avenue United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
