Bernis C. Ropp of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday afternoon, June 2, 2011, in The Commons in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 79 years.

Bernis C. Ropp, youngest of Ten children, was born on October 28, 1931, in Hulbert, Oklahoma, to John F. and Carrie (Briggs) Potts. She grew up in Hulbert graduating from Hulbert High School in 1950. She married A. V. Freeman on April 15, 1950, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and they settled in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She moved to Blackwell in 1959 and on December 4, 1963 she married John Ropp in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell. In 1971 she began working in the Northern Oklahoma College cafeteria and worked there until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, reading, attending garage sales and following the Oklahoma Sooners. She was a staunch Republican and loved being with family to whom she was affectionately known as "Chub."

She is survived by six sons, Steve Freeman and wife Shelly of Blackwell, Mike Freeman and wife Susie of Blackwell, Tim Freeman of Del City, Oklahoma, Ricky Freeman of Blackwell, Terry Freeman of Blackwell and John Ropp Jr. and wife Marci of Enid, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Two brothers baby boy Potts, John C. Potts; and seven sisters, Jesse Dunlap, Pauline Steelman, Wanda Watkins, Mae Potts, Fern Sisney, Bessie Adkins and Hazel Baldridge; a grandson, Cody Freeman; and a great grandson, Kohle Freeman.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 6th in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Bill McKissick of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

The grandchildren and great grandchildren of Bernis Ropp will serve as honorary casketbearers.
Mrs Ropp was the 8th great Granddaughter of Pilgrim John Howland that came to America on the Mayflower in 1620.
