Harriet at 13 ran off with her older sister Catherine's husband, James Bridge, in 1855. They did not marry until Catherine died of typhoid in 1863. By then they had three children. When James died in 1902, she married William C. Grant, whose first wife was Rhodella Bridge, who was James's sister. Tho she was born and died in New York, Harriet lived most of her life in Elwood, Will, Illinois.
