Robert Anthony Rompf, 75, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, after a long struggle with cancer. Service: Mass of Christian Burial, Bob and his wife, Susan, are members of St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford. A celebration of life Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's, followed by a church reception. Inurnment: At a later date in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Robert, known to family and friends as Bob, was born May 23, 1940, to Robert and Catherine Rompf. Bob's life was blessed with three children of his own, three stepchildren, seven grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, four brothers, one sister and family spouses. Bob was a kind, generous and loving man. We will all miss his presence in our lives. Bob was born in Gary, Ind., but as a young boy moved to Lansing, Mich. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1962 and entered the United States Air Force. His dream was to be a pilot and while in the Air Force he attained his captain's wings. Bob served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1970. He then followed up with several years in the Air Force Reserve. After leaving the Air Force, Bob worked building homes in the Fort Worth area. Upon his retirement Bob donated much time to his church and to transporting patients for the Veteran's Administration Medical Center.
